About 70 per cent of Bucharest’s residents purchase bottled water for home consumption, although the tap water meets the EU standards and it is widely available indoors. Bottled water dominates the drinking water landscape in shopping malls, as there are no water fountains available. Recently, however, we discovered a new public fountain for bottle refills in the food court area of Park Lake Shopping Mall. Two sides are allocated to washing hands, and one to bottled refills. Of course, we could not miss the indoor bicycle cart, selling pretzels and bottled water.
